Talladega

Today is the Talladega race. This is one of my favorite races of the year. Even if someone does not like racing, this is a race people just love to watch. it may be the only one for non-race fans, but i am very excited for today.

Monday 4/20

Today we finished our multi modal presentations. Fast food and firearms went today. Everybody did a great job. We then went over what would be contained in our portfolios.

Wednesday 4/22

Today we worked on our portfolios. I worked on my first essay and tried to figure out what my in class essay would be. I hope everyone got done what they needed to get done.

Friday 4/24

Today i was sick so i didnt show up. Once again I hope everyone got everything done they wanted to.

Website

although there is nothing more in the world i hate than work...lol...(text speech)..i am somewhat excited to finish the website that we have to do. Professor McArdle in my opinion is rigth about how cool it can be when its done, and ive always liked group projects.

Easter

Today is easter as everyone knows, and it was a great day. We had very nice weather which is more than i can say about the last few years, but i had to travel to eastern indiana for my uncles funeral, but i saw all my family there so that was nice, but i hope everyone else had a good weekend, and ill see everyone tomorrow.

Revisions

I have been working on revisions all weekend since i have been sick. They are coming around nicely though. I am gunning for at least a b in this class, and i think i can get it. The point is i see myself as well as most in the class improving every week.

Sick week

This week had to be one of the worst weeks for me, but greatly improved during the weekend, i was sick on thursday and friday with a cold, but it bounced back sat night, and today was a grreat day of sleeping, wish i could have been at class on friday, i hate missing classes.

Free Write 3/20/09

The paper i would like to really work on is my research paper over oil. I feel like i knew what i was talking about in my head, but when Professor McArdle read it, he thought i needed to specify what i was arguing. When i looked over the paper again, i realized that there was no central argument, that one could point out, but in Economics class, we have to read the wall street journal and i think i found another point i could put in my paper. The article was about alternative energy, and what Obama wants to do with it. He wants to double the amount we already have, but in the article it states that the bush administration accomplished that feat from the clinton administration. The point being, that Obama criticized bush for not doing enough to utilize alternative energy sources. Whereas the article states (and i checked his sources) that if Obama where to keep his word on renewable energy such as wind and solar, he would only be on par with former president bush on that, and it would only bring 1.4% of the total amount of energy in our country. Also, the article says that some environmentalists are somewhat worried about total reliance on renewable energy, the reason being, is they are variables. Meaning that if there were a drought and we relied too much on water power, we would not be able to get the amount we require, and we would have to construct more dams, which would disturb wildlife. Also if there was little wind, there would hence be little power. Solar energy is only good during the day as well. There are problems with renewable energy, and the overall point i am trying to make is that there is no perfect way at all to produce energy.
On the subject of water power though, i got the opportunity to see the Hoover Dam in Boulder City, NV. It is right outside of Las Vegas and it is huge. There are 5 massive generators, and caves that go into the rock. It kind of makes me think of Vegas Vacation, which is a great movie, centered in Las Vegas, which is my favorite place to visit, regardless of me not being 21 yet. There is so much to do there, and the scenery is great, there are ridges everywhere, and some are even snow-capped. The place i visit a lot there and eat a lot at is the NASCAR Cafe, there you can place bets on the races, eat tailgate type food, watch highlights from past races, and sometimes even racers are there mingling with the public. I would like to go to the Las Vegas race next year, as it will fall on spring break that year, and i will be 21, it is a win win situation.
Enough with Las Vegas, Daytona beach is a great place to go as well, all the clubs are within 20 minutes of each other, walking, and the waves are big for bodysurfing and boogeyboarding. I got to see the Track there, and it is huge, it is kind of like indianapolis motor speedway in the since it creeps up on you when you get there, it is building, building, building, track -track-track-track- building. It made me think of home, because i was raised around the speedway, even though we live 30 minutes from IMS, my childhood was based around the 500. Every year, my aunt and uncle and a few frineds come into town, and we have a lot of fun with them. I would suppose that most people in this class would know what im talking about, because i bet most people have an event like this they do. The brickyard 400 is a more recent addition to my tradition, bc i have only been there for 3 years in a row, but rush the band always plays the thursday before teh race, then practice on friday, qualifying on saturday, then race day sunday, and it couldnt be a better weekend for me.

Spring break

I just got back from spring break. I went to daytona and had a great time. i had a boogeyboard accident and my lip is messed up now, but either way i had fun. I hope everyone else had fun as well, and i will see you all tomorrow.

Online Assignment

Since was not here last semester i will try this as the best as the directions say to

English 102 Course Goals

1. I am not exactly sure what this means so i would assume i have not grasped the concept of this.
2. I feel like i understand the importance of audience enough to provide a good arguement designed for that audience, so i feel somewhat comfortable with it.
3. I feel like this is something i need to work on this a little bit, i have getting better this semester, but i need to work on the revision part of this goal.
4. This is something that i have done much better at this semester.
5. I grasped this concept a while ago, with being able to know what the audience needs to know to pursuade my case.
6. I feel im very good at this.
7. I need to work on this a lot.
8. I feel like this is progressing a lot with me, but commas still provide a problem for me, however, orgainzation seems to be acceptable on all papers.
9. I have done 3rd drafts on all papers up to date, so i feel this is progressing nicely.
10. I have always been good at working with other people on anything.
11. I have 3 done
12. I did this in eng 101 but i feel it is too soon to realize this goal for this class.

English 102 course content and format.

1. We do this in our circles, and this is definately a new element to me, but i think im getting better at the analyzing part.
2. This is very easy for me to do.
3. Conferences are new to me as well, but the conferences have showed me critical criticism is helpful.
4. This is not finish, but i am progressing in fullfilling this goal.

University core curriculum and goals.

1. I love learning so i can fullfill this goal very easily.
2. Speech 210 helped me to in the future realize this goal, but i need english 102, 104, and to graduate to realize this goal.
3. I know what my convictions are, and recently i have become more sensitive to what others believe.
4. This seems to me more like an ideal, that someone will never be able to achieve, but i am learning these problems and i can find connections
5. I have learned that some problems have to be worked on with others, and that is something have been getting better at.
6. I have this down as well.

That is what i have, i hope it meets the standard.

Lord of the Rings

This week on Monday night my fraternity brothers and I watched all three lord of the Rings movies...it was great, those movies are incredible. Legolas, played by Orlando Bloom is a badass with his bow...its sweet.

Daytona 500 2007

This seems like a repetive post but this was the best finish ive ever seen in nascar. Just watch it...most likely you will not be disappointed. Huge crash...

Conferences

I have never in an english class had this before and i feel like they help a lot in writing my papers. I have revised my second essay to an almost perfect second draft, and i feel like im improving as a writer.

Auto Club 500

As some know if they read my other posts, i am a huge nascar fan. i watched the california race tonight and i was dissapointed, but matt kenseth won again, that is the second in a row. He is the first driver since jeff gordon to win the first 2 races in a season, so that is cool, but it is fun anyway to watch the races and talk about them.

Daytona 500

Today kicks off my favorite season in sports, Nascar. The race was good because Tony stewart led a lot of laps, but i absolutely hate Dale Jr, he caused a crash and made mistakes and he always fails to admit it. It makes me mad, but o well. Matt kenseth won because of a rain delay, which is really a right place right time issue and not exactly winning, but o well. California next weekend, then Vegas.

Argument

Last night was my fraternity formal, which is just a dance, in Carmel. As such we needed dates, and the girl i went with loves to argue. Added to that, we have totally different political views, which only makes matters worse. Normally its fine and we dont argue, but on this particular night she had one too many coke and waters, and it got heated quick, at least on one side, hers. Aside, we got into the argument and all i could think about is thank you for smoking. I was just laughing the whole time, and i think i won because she gave up because i was laughing so hard.lol

The Office

I dont know if anyone else watches the Office besides me, but that is a great show. the hour long episode tonigth was great, it made me happy.

Superbowl

Tonight's superbowl was one of the best ive seen. Next to the Colts winning and NY beating NE, but thats besides the point. I wanted Arizona to win, and they almost did, lose some win some. The commercials were awful though. they were all car commercials, and i was mad. However, great game and looking forward to NASCAR season.

Essays

Our essays were due Friday, and i picked media bias. I picked it because i am tired of the media being biased on both sides, and i wanted to do something challenging. I thought the paper would be harder than it actually was. I had an easy time writing it. I guess since i was passionate about the subject, it was easier than i thought. I accidentally forgot my works cited friday night, but i remembered early saturday.

Thank You for Smoking

This movie really tied in what we need to know for our papers. When we talked about how there was no smoking in the movie, it made me think about what the movie was actually trying to accomplish. The movie ended great by Naylor destroying the senator in the congressional hearing. This movie is a really good one.

Since Im new in the class

Well im new in the class, and to let everyone get to know me a little better I will share a little about myself. I am from Indianapolis and I went to Hamilton Southeastern high school in Fishers. I am actually a sohomore, and I am in the Sigma Chi fraternity and hold the position as Historian. I figure that most people may not care as much about the the whole greek thing, because only about 10% of ball state is greek but thats ok. I am a history major and I want to minor in political science. I'm not sure what im going to do immediately out of college, but i want to work in politics. Since I am on that subject I am part of a minority at BSU which would be, politically conservative. The are things I enjoy other than debate though. My favorite sport is NASCAR and yes it is a sport. Tony Stewart has been my driver even before he was in Indy Car. I like boating and golf. I do like football a lot too, and I hope Arizona wins the superbowl this year. I am not sure what else to say about me. If you want to know you can ask me whatever. I look forward to this semester with everyone and hope to make some friends and learn how to write better. As you can probably see from my picture I am kind of a goofy person.

Thank you for smoking

This movie is one of the best semi political films I have ever seen. Nick Naylor is the type of guy that i want to be in politics, however, more ethical. His arguements are always so perfect, they get you thinking that maybe anyone can write anything as long as it is argued correctly. i had to see the rest of this movie so i went out and rented it. It's a good one.
